Cancers and disorders of the bile ducts and gallbladder require precise surgery, often at the boundary of the liver and pancreas.

Bile duct cancer, including the particularly challenging Klatskin tumor at the confluence of the bile ducts, gallbladder cancer, and ampullary cancer are treated with resections tailored to the exact location and extent of disease, frequently in combination with liver or pancreatic surgery.

Benign conditions such as gallstones (cholelithiasis) and bile duct strictures are also addressed, with the goal of relieving obstruction and preventing recurrent infection or progression to more serious disease.

Why timely assessment matters

Tumours of the digestive system often cause few or no symptoms until they are advanced. A prompt surgical opinion establishes whether an operation is possible, how much healthy tissue can be preserved, and in what order surgery, chemotherapy, and other treatment should be given. A second opinion is worthwhile even when an operation has been ruled out elsewhere.
