Patience and composure are among the most essential traits of a surgeon; they must be continuously developed to make rational, effective decisions in critical moments. A strong commitment to ethical values and the well-being of patients must always come first, alongside the communication skills needed to build patients' trust and to work harmoniously with the wider team.
Surgery is never just an individual effort — it is a collaborative endeavor, and success depends on setting high goals and learning from every challenge along the way.
Academic career: In 1998, Prof. Dr. Yedibela began his studies at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany, completing his PhD there in 2000 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. med. W. Hohenberger, with the distinction of magna cum laude.
In 2005 he earned his Venia Legendi as Associate Professor at the same university with a thesis on the role of surgical methods in the multimodal treatment of benign and malignant liver disease, followed by his Habilitation in 2006, holding the title Privatdozent Dr. med. Dr. med. habil.
He served as Senior Physician at Leipzig University in 2007, then returned to Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg in 2009 as Head of the Division of Transplantation and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery, before being awarded a full professorship (Prof. Dr. med. Dr. med. habil.) in 2014.
His subsequent leadership roles include Deputy Clinic Director at the Universitätsklinik für Allgemein- und Viszeralchirurgie of the European Medical School Oldenburg-Groningen (2015), Director of the Organ Transplant Unit at Florence Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul (2016), Deputy Director of the Clinic for General, Visceral, and Thoracic Surgery at Agaplesion Diakonieklinikum Rotenburg (Wümme) in 2018, and Deputy Clinic Director and Head of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary and Esophageal Surgery at Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel, Bielefeld, in 2019.
He currently continues as a faculty member of Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg while practicing in Istanbul, Turkey.
